agendas

New Year New You~!

If your resolution this year is to get organized, I'm with you~! Actually I'm already pretty organized. I just lOooOve getting a new planner. My two favorite items this year are Coach's 6x8 Tribeca organizer in Plum, and Moleskine's Color a Month boxed planners. I can't decide which one I like better. I'm convincing myself that I need both. The Coach agenda is already in my possession. I think I'll use the Moleskine as a journal. Each page/Each Day will have one sketch, of whatever I'm thinking about that day. Could be meaningful, could be nothing... who knows. :) By the end of the year I'll have a boxed set of sketches! Sweet...

baroque to neo baroque to just plain bad...

intricate, heavily carved, plasterwork

carved, gilded

large turned legs mixed with neoclassical straight lines, using modern materials
stylized and flattened, what would normally be carved in baroque furniture

flattened form, carving depicted in intricate line drawing

when a design trend reaches this point, maybe it's time to move on to something else. say goodbye to big scale damask, white lacquer, and chandelier graphics. it was great while it lasted. at first i couldn't get enough of you, now i can't stand to be with you. so long... on to the next trend

Sparkle and Shine this Holiday Season!

Easy to make modern decor (designsponge).

Snazzy glass ornaments mix vintage shapes with new colors (cb2).

I love editing for Christmas. Limit your palette to one color, or one range of colors. You can use the other ornaments next year, or each room could have a different color story (purecontemporary.blogs.com).

Modern take on Baby Jesus! :)

chandeliers

While on the subject of lighting, I discovered a cool little website called "chandeliera" (http://chandeliera.com/)

Check out some of their stuff!

lighting

Lighting is SO important! Don't kill yourself over the fact that you don't have recessed lighting in your house. Those are actually pretty worthless! Humans are upright beings, our eyes are attracted to light. Why light the floor? Try washing light up or down a wall to attract attention toward a design feature. Create different lighting schemes with switching so you can change the mood with the flick of a switch. Don't forget accent lighting. They're like little pieces of jewelry you hang throughout your space.
Repeat after me: down-lights are worthless *unless you're in a flooring showroom*
